Re: AA1 poses

Okay, I have to open the floodgates again.

Take my hand

You see, one reason that I kept on citing as an issue in doing the the personality port is the poses. When I want to show something, I want to make it as presentable as possible. Flipper hands won’t really do it.

… and here’s a spoiler about what this post is about?

I refuse using the currently-released pose port given its unfinished state, so I also don’t use the personalities which need such additional poses. The port is quite a mess and it’s not like I can make use of how much has been fixed anyway (the most important being Affable’s default pose). My initial plan is to wait for something better, and to exclusively use AA2 poses by then.

I’ve been learning things in SB3U through following mod installation instructions and trial and error as I don’t have the patience learning through other means. Anyway, one subject that kept me struggling (especially with the jargon) is about animation files.

Lena’s scripts (which I didn’t use this time) reveals about certain functions of SB3U, which at first seemed like black magic as there’s no indication of where I can access such functions in the SB3U GUI itself. As someone who has obsession about GUI as a subject, this pisses me off to end. Now, I’ve learned how to access functions so I can try something different from what he is trying to do.

What resulted from that is an improved version of the AA1 pose port.

It’s time consuming as I have to individually handle each pose to minimize dislocation and clipping. I also have to repeat the same process for the other 2 heights.

You might not notice it, but the body looks less stiff because the hip region became wider.

I could still perceive “stiffness” in the shoulder and neck regions, though it could be just my imagination… (No really, my characters’ heads look smaller in AA1 poses for some reason.)

Below shows one pose that an anon fixed (left) and another that I fixed (right). I am not sure about what he did, but there isn’t really a huge difference in the results.

I went ahead and compiled the “fixed” poses in the existing pose port and added the ones left untouched for this release. That sums up to 56 unique poses.

Here’s the catch:

  • Around 5 poses (still) have inevitable clipping issues (e.g. Mistress’ default pose) and I didn’t feel like fixing them.
  • This is based off the release that I made months ago (which got DMCA’d) and I think there aren’t existing personality ports by then. I made the port initially for personal use so I did not care when its numbering is completely different from the ports currently released.

The ordering of the poses is also based off the order of the personalities in the character maker, which I thought is more convenient to remember as someone modding dialogue files. Duplicates are already taken away.

Another catch is that this is a limited release. I don’t know about you, but what I did is already outside of what is in Lena’s guide so hopefully he doesn’t go around taking down stuff. Then again, I said the same thing when I extracted AA1’s Maker poses (not covered in his guide) and it got taken down anyway. Since I avoid conflicts, don’t expect me to host this for long. However you might ask me why I went ahead releasing this anyway. No one else would if I don’t, right?

Besides, if I do get finished with the port and I feel like releasing it, then this is the port that I will use…

This is not Wizzard ready. Feel free to report errors as always.

Terms of use

  • Feel free to reupload without permission, and you don’t need to attribute me.
  • Credits go to where they are due.

Future implementations

  • I am trying to see if I can port animations (not just still poses) from other games to AA2.
  • Clippings should be addressed but I am not really the best person to handle that problem as I am not competent with modelling.

    1. Yeah, I just noticed it. Dunno if it got hit by DMCA take down again as I’ve only uploaded it hours ago… Now, I wonder how to deal with this…

      1. You could search for a Chinese or Russian file sharing site or if you want to fully escape DMCA risks you could set-up a FTP server.

      1. Thank you for the mods, but i have a little issue with the password for the files from JG2_MOD_Loader, it says “wrong password” when im trying to open them. Maybe im missing something?

      2. I just checked and I am certain that the password given works. (It’s the one with Japanese characters, for reference)

        Maybe you should try inputting the password again? Otherwise, extract with Japanese locale or use a different archiver.

  1. Since guys are extremely neglected, I kind of wanted to work on it a bit in my free time. If someone wanted to import AAI1 poses for guys (including the idle poses) how would I go about that?

    Right now I’m messing with personality editing and trying to fix up a personality that apparently has a lot more problems than I initially thought, but it’s been good enough experience in that I would probably be able to start working on importing AAI1 personalities for guys once I finish fixing all the lines and making sure nothing is buggy.

    The thing is, guy poses are extremely limited, and most of them are kind of dumb looking. I’m unsure whether it’d be faster to figure out how to port the AAI1 poses or figure out how to edit all the empty slots.

    1. (For high-poly poses)
      It might be more convenient if you take the guy poses from the older version of the pose port (they are 4 files which have the name, “HSK00_~_00.xa”. I think the only issue about them is the flipper hands. In my case, I took the female poses from the old pose port which had the same issue and merged different animation tracks (which varies depending on the pose) to “fix” them.

      You’ll actually end up doing the same thing when you start from scratch using AA1 files. Moreover, since the skeleton of AA1 and AA2 are different, you’ll have to delete some animation tracks (inspect Lena’s scripts regarding his male pose port to give you an idea). For additional overview of what to do, take this image as an example:

      AA1 has a different naming convention for “male” animation tracks (s~ instead of a~) though you can easily remedy it using XaEasyCool.

      (For low-poly poses)
      AA1 female low-poly poses are already in AA2’s files so i did not actually do any form of importing to use them. Males don’t; though I just found out that importing them straight from AA1 won’t really give you an issue… except when you pay attention and see that their abdominal area is quite “misaligned”.

      (Notice the dent on the fat guy as he does Violent’s pose)

      Anyway. if you don’t mind that, you can just export the low-poly animations from AA1’s jcp00_00_00.pp then import them to AA2’s jg2p01_00_00.pp. You’ll have to transfer selected animation tracks from one .XA file to another, namely:

      (AA1 -> AA2)
      LS01_00_00_01.xa -> LS01_00_01_00.xa
      LS01_00_01_01.xa -> LS01_00_00_00.xa
      LS01_00_02_01.xa -> LS00_00_02_00.xa
      LS01_00_03_01.xa -> LS00_00_03_00.xa

      Regarding how to export/import animations, refer to last portions of this comment.

      Working on personalities is easy but significantly time-consuming, while porting poses requires less time but more technical knowledge. Either way, good luck!
